The demand of Hon. Mascot Uzor Kalu, the 2023 Governorship candidate of the Action Peoples Party (APP) in Abia state for INEC to extend voters registration has gotten a legal backing, as a Federal High Court asks the Electoral Commission to extend the exercise.
Following the hearing of an argument on the motion by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), Hon. Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon of the Federal High Court (Court 10) sitting in Abuja, on Monday, 20th June 2022, granted an order of interim injunction, stopping INEC from ending voter registration on June 30, 2022.
Recall that Hon. Mascot Uzor Kalu had written to INEC and other relevant stakeholders, including SERAP, asking for the unconditional extension of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) which was dated 12th April 2022.
